It was confirmed today that the WCA Districts of Eden and West Coast Regional galas as per the new dates:
- 23 – 26 March Level 3 at Oudtshoorn
- 28 – 30 March Level 2 at Malmesbury

Subject: LEVEL 3 AND LEVEL 2 REGIONAL GALAS: IMPORTANT INFO FROM GN44044 – PUBLISHED 11 JANUARY 2021
FOR DISTRIBUTION TO ALL WCA MEMBERS
Dear members
Adjusted level 3 allows 50 people for gathering indoor and 100 outdoor. in relation to sport only athletes, match officials and support staff are allowed and should not be above number as outlined.
In light of the above, WCA in partnership with Eden and West Coast District will not be able to hold Level 3 Provincial Gala in Oudsthoorn from 29-31 January nor Level 2 from February 20-22 at Malmesbury Pool.
Municipalities are reluctant to re-open their facilities to sporting events at this stage. In addition spectators are not allowed, at all. This means that spectators cannot peer over the walls on the outside of the event which draws a crowd who are therefore spectators creating a super-spreader environment.
We are waiting for decisions from Swimming South Africa regarding postponement dates and/or confirmation of further events.

The inclusion of the definition of a beach
“‘beach’ means the sandy, pebbly or rocky shore-
(a) between the high -water mark and low -water mark adjacent to-
(i) the sea. or
(ii) an estuary mouth extending 1000 meters inland from the mouth; and
(b) within 100 metres of the high -water mark, excluding private property.
including the sea and estuary themselves adjacent to the beach “: and
So no open water events, unless you own your own body of water, and swim competitions with limited numbers and protocols can continue.
- Curfew: changed to 21h00 to 05h00 – 33 (1)
- Venues hosting sport: closing time 20h00 – 33(3)
- Sanitising and procedures at bank tellers now included – 34 (11)
- Gatherings at sports grounds and fields are prohibited (the twee week period was removed – 36 (8)(b)
- All beaches, dams, lakes and rivers…. are closed to public in hotspot areas – remain – 36 (9)
- All public swimming pools, including recreational facilities at such places, are closed to public – remain – 36(11)
- A challenge for members using Gyms – they are still limited to 50 persons at a time – 36(15)
- GOOD NEWS: SPORTING ACTIVITIES BY RECOGNISED SPORTING BODIES ARE STILL ALLOWED – 36(17). Still no spectators
