Background – Glenn Petersen
Glenn is the medic who lost a leg in 2018 after a heart attack and some unfortunate set of events.
He has always given more than was asked of him, often being there after we have all left, helping Eric Ehrenreich and Chris van Niekerk pack up.
With the loss of his leg, it meant he lost mobility to do his medics job as well as his other job of fixing automatic gearboxes. Glenn is divorced with two small kids.
The proposal, supported by coaches from 20+ clubs and SwimBoard, was to run a Glenn Petersen Benefit Gala which was to raise money for an artificial leg and fitment for him. The proceeds of the gala went into a separate account which was used to pay the service provider of the leg and also pay towards fitment/adjustment visits. The bank account is available for all donors to see.
The Glenn Petersen Benefit Gala in March 2019 raised a fair amount of money. It was used to help Glenn with visits to specialists, expenses and “keep him afloat”. Unfortunately, Glenn passed away in July 2019. Again, the fund helped pay for his funeral and cremation.
What has happened to the remaining funds?

The remaining funds have been used to create a legacy for Glenn and his children. After exploring several options to help Glenns children with their education, it was decided that a School-in-a-Box system would offer cost-effective and an ongoing investment in their education.
