Rebecca Fury

Congrats to Clifton Surf Lifesaving Club – CSLC’s Rebecca Fury, who has been selected to represent South Africa at the 2024 Lifesaving World Championships from 20 August to 8 September on the Gold Coast in Australia.

This will be the 16-year-old’s third international appearance after representing the President’s Team at the 2023 Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships in Canada, where she made the finals in all her events, winning four individual medals and three relay medals, as well as achieving highest point scorer across all the international development teams. Rebecca then made her Team SA debut at the International Surf Rescue Challenge in Texas later in 2023 where she won all her individual and relay races that she competed in.

A strong competitive swimmer who joined Lifesaving Sport as a Nipper, Rebecca’s love for the ocean and waves was a key determining factor to immerse herself in the lifesaving community. She has grown from strength to strength, breaking SA records, winning both the Stillwater and Surf Victrix Ludorums at SA Champs in her age group and representing WP at Provincials. Competing in the Surf Swim and Stillwater events, the St Cyprians’ schoolgirl intends to make waves at Worlds.

She is one of the 6 girls in the Junior Female team (18&u) representing South Africa in the pool and surf lifesaving events.

Eve Abrahams

Congratulations to Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club’s Eve Abrahams, who has been selected to represent South Africa at the 2024 Lifesaving World Championships from 20 August to 8 September on the Gold Coast in Australia.

This will be Eve’s third international competition after shining at the 2023 International Surf Rescue Challenge in Texas and the ILS Africa Champs in Durban earlier this year. Apart from tasting victory at National Club and Provincial levels, this talented 16-year-old shone on the international stage in Texas where she claimed two silvers and helped the Junior SA team win the overall competition.

Eve followed that up with a gold (Sprints), bronze (Flags), and gold for Mixed Beach Relay, which saw the President’s Team being crowned African champions. A sprint sensation on the sand, Eve comes from a rich lifesaving family and is soon to be a fully qualified third-generation lifeguard. Both her parents, her grandfather, and her late aunt were all qualified lifeguards, and she absolutely loves the sport and lifestyle. There is no doubt Eve is primed for glory at Worlds.

She is one of the 6 girls in the Junior Female team (18&u) representing South Africa in the pool and surf lifesaving events.
