New Swimming Club for Camps Bay Primary for 2022

5th November 2021

The Camps Bay Swimming Club started to use the school pool for the first time in 1974 and has had a close working relationship with the school ever since. Wendy Way, after whom the centre is named, has coached here for most of her life and has achieved significant success with many swimmers in this time.

As a school we have been engaged in a process of rejuvenating our sport offerings so as to make our school more attractive to children who have talents in these areas. We also want to offer more skills and opportunities to all our children. Swimming is an important offering at our school, and we felt it was time to look wider in an attempt to increase the profile of this sport at CBPS. The result of this process is that we have engaged the services of Vineyard Swimming Club from January 2022.

A non-negotiable part of this process was that Wendy Way would be able to continue to coach at the pool. We are very pleased that this will be the case and we wish Vineyard all the best as they prepare for their first season at our school. We also take this opportunity to thank the Camps Bay Swimming Club for the many years they have been associated with CBPS and for the huge contribution they have made.

Swimming News

26th November 2021

The new arrangements for next year are taking shape and we are excited about the future of swimming at Camps Bay Primary. As reported earlier, Wendy Way was offered the opportunity to continue her coaching at our school and she will be doing just that. She will be continuing with her master’s class in the mornings and will also continue to assist with our PE classes where she has added so much value with her vast experience.

She will also be working with Vineyard in the afternoons for our squad training. We have chosen swimming to be one of our key sports and we are looking forward to seeing our swimming capacity improving.

Pool Equipment Upgrade

Just before COVID struck, our school held a ‘Swimathon’ to raise funds for the pool. These funds (125k) have been kept for the pool and we will be utilising them to replace the equipment which belongs to the Camps Bay Swimming Club. We will need to add to this amount to complete the project and plans are afoot to hold another ‘Swimathon’ next year for this purpose.

Vineyard Swimming Club starting in January 2022

Vineyard is excited to be starting coaching at Camps Bay Primary and working with Wendy Way. Their philosophy of FAST & FUN has proved to be successful at their other sites which include, Rondebosch Boys, Bishops (Junior & Senior), Sweet Valley, Rustenburg, St Josephs, Micklefield, and Greenfield.

2022 will be an exciting year with inter school opportunities for all who are keen to compete.
